“No one color could get across the meaning of the moment,” says Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, explaining the two shades that seem to be complete opposites.
Pressman explains that the unusual color combination, which includes two usually independent colors, is a great metaphorical representation of society this year. “We all realized we cannot do this alone. We all have a deeper understanding of how we need each other and emotional support and hope,” she says.

Perk up a little moody gray with optimize yellow as chosen by the color experts of Pantone. Since neutral gray has been a popular color in the home design space for a while now, it is a perfect representation of the cloudier and darker recent past while yellow is sunny and optimistic and signifies a brighter future.
And while the Pantone colors Classic Blue (2020) and Living Coral (2019) will continue to be popular shades, Ultimate Gray and Illuminating are showing up around the world in everything from clothing and cars to kitchen and other home design elements, according to trend forecasters.
