Grand Forks students win honors at state leadership and skills conference
May 14—Students at Grand Forks Central and Red River high schools earned honors in competitive events at the North Dakota SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference recently in Bismarck, according to the Grand Forks school district.
SkillsUSA is a national organization that serves students in trade, industrial, technical and health occupation programs in public high schools, career and technical centers and schools, and two-year colleges.
The students who placed in the SkillsUSA competitive event categories each received a medal. They included Grand Forks Central High School students Mark Cabunsura, third place in computer programming; and Sophia Pringle, Reyna Lindquist and Jakob Stevenson, who placed first, second and third, respectively, in technical drafting.
Red River High School students who placed in the competitions include: two-person teams Broden Diederich and Nabeel Hossain, Angelica Knudsen and Selena Wu, and Manan Chaturvedi and Anakin Gregory, who placed first, second and third, respectively, in mobile robotics; Matthew Evans and Owen Reilly, who placed first and second, respectively, in computer programming; Carson Mathre and Ryan Polasky, who placed first and third, respectively, in information technology services; and Jonathan Parrish, first place in internetworking;
First place winners are eligible to compete at the National Leadership and Skills Conference, which will be held virtually June 21-24.
Program advisors are, at Grand Forks Central High School — Nate Carlson, engineering and drafting; and at Red River High School — Ryan Moldenhauer, technical drafting; Kevin Nelson, automotive services; Joseph Ostgarden, mobile robotics; Aaron Schauer, team works and building trades; and Paul Zettler, information technology.
