Grand Forks Public Health to host free COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Home of Economy this week

May 18—Grand Forks Public Health and Home of Economy will co-host a pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the Home of Economy parking lot on Thursday, May 20.

The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be open to walk-in appointments. Attendees may also pre-register for an appointment at ndvax.org. COVID-19 vaccines are free and require no insurance information, and public health nurses will be on site to answer questions about the vaccines. Home of Economy is located at 1508 N. Washington St. in Grand Forks.

Haley Bruhn, Grand Forks Public Health immunization program manager, said the pop-up clinic is part of a continued effort to make vaccines readily available to the community.

"Our partnership with Home of Economy is about trying to make it easy and accessible for people to get vaccinated," she said in a statement. "Popping up in a variety of locations throughout Grand Forks County is an attempt to boost the community's vaccination rate, resulting in more of our community being spared of the burden of the COVID-19 disease. It is also a great opportunity for us to be able to answer questions and address concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine."

Anyone at the vaccination clinic will be asked to wear a face mask and maintain physical distance of six feet from others. They will also be encouraged to remain for observation for 15 minutes following vaccination. Anyone younger than 18 receiving the vaccine must have consent from a parent or guardian during the registration process.

As of Sunday, May 16, approximately 30,040 people in Grand Forks County (or 42% of the population) have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, according to Grand Forks Public Health. It's estimated that about 60% of the population must be vaccinated to reach presumptive herd immunity.
