Grand Forks County rescinds burn ban
Apr. 14—The burn ban in Grand Forks County has been rescinded.
According to a news release from the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Andy Schneider has rescinded a recently-enacted burn ban after consulting with fire chiefs throughout the county, as well as the county's emergency manager.
"Grand Forks County has received adequate moisture to decrease the risk of fire that would exceed our available resources," the release stated. "The sheriff's office encourages all persons to continue to use caution and common sense when having fires, whether recreational or open burning."
The GFSO is encouraging people to continue to monitor the state fire danger index as a guide to decide whether to burn or have a recreational fire. GFSO will continue to monitor conditions regarding potential high-risk fire danger.
The burn ban was enacted on March 29, then extended on April 6 by the Grand Forks County Commission, after the region continued to experience drought conditions. Revoking the ban comes after the area received up to three inches of snow on Monday and Tuesday.
On March 28, a grass fire burned 250 acres of CRP land near Grand Forks International Airport, after a hot bullet ignited the grass while a couple of people were engaged in target shooting.
