Grammys 2020: Alicia Keys opens the show with a moving Kobe Bryant tribute

Singer Alicia Keys opened up the 62nd Grammy Awards with a moving monologue that paid homage to Kobe Bryant who passed away Sunday morning, along with his daughter Gianna and seven others, in a fatal helicopter crash on Sunday.

The second-time Grammys host stunned in a form-fitting chrome dress as she took the stage to deliver the speech.

"Here we are together on music's biggest night celebrating the artists that do it best but to be honest with you we're all feeling crazy sadness right now because earlier today Los Angeles, America and the whole wide world lost a hero. We're literally standing here heartbroken in the house that Kobe Bryant built," Keys emotionally began.

Keys continued, "Right now, Kobe and his daughter Gianna and all those tragically lost today are in our spirits, in our hearts, in our prayers, and they're in this building. I would like to ask everybody to take a moment and just hold them inside of you and share our strength and support with their families."

"We never imagined in a million years we'd have to start the show like this, so we wanted to do something do describe a tiny bit how we feel right now," she tearfully added.

The star ended her touching monologue with a powerful acapella performance of "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" beside the song's original singers, Boyz II Men.

Bryant, 41, and his daughter Gianna were in an S-76 helicopter when it crashed in Calabasas, California around 10 am Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife Vanessa and three daughters.
