GOP taps Gordon for 35th Senate District

May 20—Republicans unanimously endorsed the nomination of Woodstock resident Jeffrey Gordon to run for the 35th Senate District seat during their convention on Sunday.

The district encompasses 13 towns, including Coventry, Stafford, Tolland, Vernon, and part of Ellington.

Gordon is a medical doctor with a practice in hematology-oncology for 28 years. He has served on the Woodstock Planning and Zoning Commission since 2007 and has been chairman since 2008.

Gordon also served as president of the Connecticut State Medical Society and serves as its council chairman.

He will run against Lisa Thomas of Coventry, who Democrats unanimously nominated on May 10. Thomas has been a schoolteacher for 36 years and is chairwoman of the Coventry Town Council.

Sen. Daniel A. Champagne, R-Vernon, mayor of that town, announced in February that he would not seek a third term.

"Jeff has my wholehearted support," Champagne said. He "will put parents first. He will listen to taxpayers from Vernon to Tolland to Woodstock. Your voice will be heard."
