Good turnout expected for Nov. 8 election

Sep. 29—NORWALK — The countdown is on until the Nov. 8 election.

Huron County Board of Elections Director Cecilia Blevins said she expects big numbers this time around.

"We expect a very good turnout," she said. "Usually absentee applications is a good indication of our turnout."

And Blevins said there have been requests for "lots of absentee applications."

"Early voting doesn't start until Oct. 12. What we are doing now is processing all of the absentee applications we are getting in. That (Oct. 12) is the first day we can mail the ballots out.

"We are processing about 2,500 applications."

The November election will have two statewide issues and one countywide issue, plus three school districts, two cities, four villages, two townships and one ambulance district that have placed issues on the ballot.

There are 63 ballot styles for this election with all the three school splits and ambulance district.

Voter registration deadline is Oct. 11. The board of elections will be open until 9 p.m. for the voters' convenience. Early in-person voting starts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 12 in Meeting Room A at the County Administration Building, 180 Milan Ave., Norwalk.

Blevins said the board is still looking for poll workers.

"We still would like some alternates ... we are set for the polls but we need alternates in case something happens on election day to any of our workers," she said.
