Good start for area competitors at SBC Lake and Bay championships

May 12—PORT CLINTON — It was a strong start for area competitors on Tuesday at the SBC Bay and Lake Division track and field championships.

The Bay division preliminaries and field event finals were held at Port Clinton, while the Lake was contested at Perkins High School. All the finals will be held on Friday back at Tru Lay Stadium in Port Clinton.

In the Bay girls 4x800-meter relay, Willard and Edison finished 1-2 in the vent.

The winning team of Willard's Layla Dials, Mckenna Stephens, Lindsay Vogel and Destiny Rose had the top time in 10:01.6. Edison's Peyton Facemire, Haley Chaput, Paige Schaefer and Abby Lesniak placed second in 10:04.31.

Also for Edison, Madison Corapi won the shot put with a toss of 34-feet-10.75 inches. Finishing second in the same event was Willard's Tristin Buurma (34-feet-5.5).

Edison's Clay Byington was second in the long jump (18-feet-7.5) and his teammate, Dylan O'Dell, was fourth (18-feet-1.25) placed fourth. Gabe Rang was fourth in the shot put for the Chargers (41-feet-1).

For the Willard boys, the 4x800 relay team of Javier Lopez, Sixos Gonzalez, Jorge Uriarte and Trenton Rupert finished in third (8:50.08).

At the Lake Division events on Tuesday at Perkins, Norwalk had five top-five finishers.

Carson Bauman was third in the pole vault (12 feet) and Kyler Kromer was fourth in the 3200 run (10:03.38).

The NHS girls 4x800 relay team of Summer Moehlman, Kylie Moser, Shyanne Moser and Joscey Thomas finished in third place (10:41.27). Lana Oglesby was fourth in the long jump (15-feet-4.25 inches) and Kylie Moser was fifth in the 3200 (13:25.99).

The remaining field events are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, and the running events will begin at 4 p.m.
