Gobble Up! 5k Thanksgiving Day Run/Walk set at BNL

BEDFORD — Bedford North Lawrence girls cross country coach Jill Vance and the BNL athletic department are offering a free run/walk, the Gobble Up! 5K, on Thanksgiving Day. The race will take place at 9 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 25, at BNL.

It will be the perfect situation for those who are looking for some morning exercise prior to the big Thanksgiving feast.

Runners and walkers should meet at the shelter on the cross country course, located on the opposite side of Stars Blvd. from the high school. Vance asks that participants please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start. The 5K will be held on the cross country course and the route marked with paint.

Donations to benefit Winter Track Club

No registration is needed and the 5K is free, but donations will be accepted at the event to support Winter Track Club (WTC). WTC is a free club sport for 6-12th graders in the NLCS district that helps keep them physically active and training through the winter months.

“Lawrence County used to have two Thanksgiving races,” said Vance, WTC Director. “However, one of those events has been discontinued and the other is on hiatus.

“We intend for this to be a one-time event to fill in that gap and make sure people in our county still have a race option on Thanksgiving morning this year.”

The 5K will be hand timed, with results compiled and posted as people finish. The top male and female finishers will each receive a pie after they cross the line. There will also be a prize drawing for all attendees, with winners drawn and posted during the race.

The Gobble Up! 5k is being cosponsored by the BNL Athletic Department. Questions should be directed to Jill Vance at jillcarleen@yahoo.com.
