People are loving this TikTok video of Gloria Gaynor washing her hands to ‘I will survive’
Gloria Gaynor has become the unofficial poster girl for preventing coronavirus after demonstrating the effectiveness of singing her 70s hit song I Will Survive while washing our hands for 20 seconds.
Brits who are bored of hearing kids scrub their hands while belting out Happy Birthday, twice, can rejoice that there’s now a new tune to adopt.
And it’s message is ever so apt in these fearful coronavirus times.
On Wednesday, the disco diva posted a short TikTok video that showed her washing her hands to a snippet of her 1979 hit.
In an accompanying caption, Gaynor wrote, “It only takes 20 seconds to ‘SURVIVE’!”
Following the outbreak of coronavirus around the world, the public has been advised to switch up their hygiene precautions by washing their hands more regularly, for at least 20 seconds at a time and to use antibacterial hand sanitiser as well.
People have also been advised to avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands as this can also help stop the spread of the disease.

The singer is now encouraging other social media users to take part in the #iwillsurvivechallenge, by washing their hands while singing along to the song’s chorus.
Gaynor isn’t the only celebrity sharing their own stay-safe routines. Earlier this week, supermodel Naomi Campbell posted images of the hygiene precautions she’s taking while travelling during the coronavirus outbreak.
As well as donning a face mask and protective gloves, she has also been donning a full hazmat suit while flying.
And the British model is promising to reveal more of her stay-safe precautions in a full YouTube video, which she’s recently previewed on Instagram.
