Glacier boys win, Avery, Tanner second at Great Falls Invite

Aug. 17—GREAT FALLS — The Glacier boys topped the field Tuesday at the Great Falls Invitational, the season-opening golf tournament for Class AA schools.

Glacier at 608 edged second-place Helena Capital by two strokes. In third was Billings Skyview with 628, and Bozeman was next with 837. The Wolfpack and Skyview were tied after the first day at 307, but closed with a total of 301, taken from the foursome of Tyler Avery, Trevor Cunningham, Trey Engellant and Jonah Wynne.

Glacier's Avery finished two strokes behind medalist Gavin Klein of Gallatin, who carded rounds of 66 and 69 for a 135 total. Avery's 68 was the lowest round of the day Tuesday, and finished at 137..

Cunningham finished in seventh, marking two top-10 placings for the Wolfpack.

Flathead finished in 11th place with 663 strokes, but shot the fifth-best score on the second day: 318..

Nick Dubois's two-day total of 159 led the Braves; he placed 19th. Teammate Tyler Williams shot a 73 Tuesday to move up to a tie for 29th, along with Glacier's Engellant. Dylan Morris tied for 22nd at 162.

Billings West ran off with the girls team title, scoring 665 to finish 20 strokes ahead of second place Billings Senior. Gallatin and CMR were next. Glacier was seventh, and the Bravettes finished 11th.

Bella Johnson of West was the girls' medalist with a total of 151. Johnson was eight strokes ahead of Glacier's Chloe Tanner, who carded 159 for second place.

Kenna Sandler had a two-day total of 197 for the Wolfpack, tying her for 25th; McKinlie Murer led Flathead shot 198 and was among three players tied for 28th.
