Girls lacrosse: Everybody gets involved as Kingston defends Section 9 Class A title

HIGHLAND FALLS — They got everybody involved.

The top-seeded Kingston Tigers girls lacrosse team defeated No. 2 Pine Bush, 17-2, to win the Section 9 Class A title for the second consecutive season at James I. O'Neill High School on Wednesday. This is the 18th title in program history.

Hannah Timbrouck set the tone early for Kingston, who finished the game with a team-high five goals.

"I think just taking coach's feedback throughout the season, listening to him and putting that into this game and executing on it just really helped for this game," Timbrouck said.

The Tigers led 9-2 at halftime and never looked back. Nine different players netted goals for Kingston.

"Today we really worked as a team getting everybody involved, not just one or two people on the board," Kingston's Arianna Burns said. "A lot of people had a lot of goals, a lot of assists, not really one-versus-ones. Everybody was really working together, creating opportunities from each other. It was really selfless today, so it was good."

Kingston coach Clayton Bouton said the team followed-through on their weaknesses well.

"Throughout the course of the season, we've been working on a lot of things that have been really weaknesses for us, and that is just moving the ball better, and we did that really well today," he said. "We connected a lot of passes. We got a lot of kids on the team involved and it just really worked out well, in transition, on offensive side, defensively. Really awesome job all around."

What it means

In their only meeting of the regular season, Kingston bested Pine Bush, 16-2, on May 13.

The Tigers will face the Section 2 winner in a subregional matchup at Rondout Valley High School on May 31 at 4 p.m. "It's an awesome feeling, but our job is not done yet," Bouton said. "We have to look at regional play, and really find some success there."
