Girls cross-country: Here are the 2021 All-North Jersey teams

After an exciting season, the following players have been selected to the 2021 All-North Jersey girls cross-country teams.

Coming soon, we will unveil the nominees for Girls Cross-Country Runner of the Year, which will be announced at the 2022 North Jersey High School Sports Awards.

Christina Allen

River Dell sophomore

Allen was unable to run in either the Bergen or State Meet of Champions but had an incredible first full season. She won five straight races, including the Bergen Group B and Big North Patriot meets and her only losses all year came to Northeast Regional champ Angelina Perez at the Group 2 meet, the sectional meet and in a sizzling Season Opener at Darlington.

She was the only Bergen runner to break 18 minutes at Darlington this year and 19 minutes at Garret Mountain, and she ended her season with a strong 28th place at the Eastbay Northeast Regional at Van Cortlandt Park.

Brianna Braver

Ramapo junior

Braver became the first Ramapo girl to win consecutive sectional titles when she won North 1, Group 3. She also won the Bergen A and Big North Freedom titles and was fifth at the Bergen Meet of Champs.

She had three early-season Top 10 finishes at major invitationals but wasn't able to finish the Group 3 race, missing out on a berth in the State Meet of Champs.

Remy Dubac

Clifton junior

Dubac became the first Clifton runner to win an individual group title when she won Group 4 at Holmdel in November. She then became the Mustangs' top girl in the SMOC since the first race in 1974 when she took fifth. Maro Bchakjian of Clifton was second in the inaugural event.

That capped an amazing season that included seven other wins, including the North 1, Group 4 sectional, Big North Liberty and North Jersey championships, as well as seconds in the Passaic County championships and the Shore Coaches Invitational.

Leanna Johnston

IHA junior

It had been six years since a Blue Eagle runner qualified for the State Meet of Champions until Johnston made it with a seventh-place finish in Non Public A. She then had one of her best races of the season, taking 36th at the SMOC.

She won four races earlier in the year, including the Bergen E and Big North United races, and took third at the Bergen Meet of Champs.

Allison Lounsbury

Indian Hills senior

Lounsbury went to the starting line 11 times this year and won just one race. But it was quite a race she won: the Bergen County Meet of Champions. She also came up big in the State Meet of Champions with a 20th-place finish, earning a medal.

She took second three times, including the Big North Freedom and Bergen B races, along with third at the North 1, Group 2 sectional and fifth in Group 2. She finished her career with 32 top-10 finishes.

Angelina Perez

Lakeland senior

Ten races. Ten victories. The fastest time on any course in state history. Course records at Darlington (twice), Garret Mountain (twice), and Great Adventure. A New Jersey course record at Holmdel Park. A State Meet of Champs title. An Eastbay Northeast Regional title. And a chance on Dec. 11 to win a national championship.

Perez had perhaps the greatest season in state history, finishing every race under 17:39, a time bested by only one New Jersey athlete in any race this year – once. In three varsity cross-country seasons, she ran 28 races with 23 wins and three second-place finishes. It's truly the greatest career in North Jersey cross-country history.

Lucia Rabolli

Ridgewood senior

Rabolli had always been outstanding on the track but seemed behind her more-heralded teammates in cross-country before this season, when she broke through and was a stalwart on the top team in North Jersey. She's headed to Rutgers next year.

She had top-10 finishes in six of eight meets, including sixth at the Bergen Meet of Champs and ninth in Group 4. She was 34th at the State Meet of Champions and 18th at the Nike Northeast Regional, improving her course bests by more than a minute at each course she ran.

Olivia Shattuck

Ridgewood senior

Consistency has been the hallmark of Shattuck's outstanding career. She led the Maroons in the five biggest races of the year, taking second in the BMOC, sixth in state group, 14th in the State Meet of Champs, seventh in the Eastern States race and ninth in the Nike Northeast Regional.

She had eight top-10 finishes in nine major races this year for a career total of 22 in 33 starts, including national, regional and state championship races. She'll run for NCAA-qualifier Syracuse next year.

AnnaMarie Tretola

Ridgewood senior

Tretola completed an exceptional four-year career as a key asset in three Bergen County championships, four sectional titles and three runner-up finishes in the State Meet of Champions. Tretola was fourth in the BMOC, third in the sectionals, 11th at Eastern States, 28th in the SMOC, and 16th in the Nike Northeast Regional.

In 39 major races during her four-year career, she put together 19 top-10 finishesand 28 top-20 finishes. She will run next year for the University of Maryland.
