Girls basketball: Knappa tops Warrenton, 47-25

Dec. 5—The teams of the future in their respective leagues met on the court Friday at Knappa, where the Lady Loggers scored a 47-25 win over Warrenton.

There was just one senior starter on the floor to begin the game, and it was a Knappa freshman who carried the scoring load, as Logger guard Mylie Lempea was dialed in from the start.

Lempea began the scoring with a 3-pointer, and ended the first half with her fourth 3-pointer, hitting from the center circle at midcourt as time expired.

Lempea had four free throws in the second half and finished with 18 points, while junior teammate Ari Miller chipped in 11. The Loggers (13-of-20) outshot the Warriors (3-for-13) from the free throw line. Warrenton was led by junior Emma Smith (14 points).

"We were certainly the undersized team in the matchup, but Alondra Piña and Ari each pulled down six rebounds," said Knappa coach Tracie Nygaard. "We had nine players in the lineup, and all players contributed with great energy. The crowd — especially the student section — was excellent for our first home game of the year."

Ilwaco defeated Warrenton in a cross-river game Saturday afternoon, 57-30.
