Girls basketball: 2022 Essex County Tournament bracket, scores, schedule
After a one year hiatus, a county champion in girls basketball will be crowned in Essex County.
Not contested last season due to a shortened pandemic year, the Essex County tournament has been contested every other year since the tournament's inception in 1975.
Only eight different schools have ever been crowned county champion in Essex County, led by Shabazz with 17 titles and 20 finals appearances, the most in both categories.
Montclair Immaculate, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, is seeking its first county tournament championship since 1990 after being the runner-up in both 2019 and 2020. No. 2 Columbia has not won the county title since 2001 and has not reached the final since 2010. No. 3 seed University is the last champion, winning its third county title in 2020.
The higher seed in each round will host in the three preliminary rounds, as well as the first round and the quarterfinals. Both semifinals and the tournament final will take place at Essex Community College in Newark.
