A two-year-old girl has been injured after a gun was fired at a vehicle in a carjacking in Birmingham.
Police are appealing for information after she was injured in the incident on Clifton Road, Balsall Heath, on Sunday evening.
The girl was hit by flying glass as a window of a Volkswagen Golf was smashed in, police said.
Four people, including the child, got out of the car before it was stolen by “offenders” at about 7.15pm, said West Midlands Police.
The car was found abandoned a short time later.
The girl was taken to hospital with minor cuts and has since been discharged.
Another passenger, a man in his 20s, was assessed by paramedics for shock.
Detectives are gathering CCTV from the area to identity who stole the car.
Detective Sergeant Simon Hanlon said: "This is a truly appalling incident and the ordeal has traumatised a family.
“There were four people in the car at the time and it’s just fortunate no one was more seriously injured.
"Gun crime is always unacceptable, but even more so when a young child’s safety is put at risk.
"We are working to establish the circumstances behind this attack and would urge anyone with information which can help us to come forward."
