With the NFL trade deadline looming, and the Giants' less-than-stellar record, safety Jabrill Peppers’ name has come up in trade conversations.

Following practice on Wednesday, Peppers was asked a myriad of questions about the Giants’ season and head coach Joe Judge, but it’s his response to a question about whether he wants to still be a Giant that may be the most telling.

“I just want to win, baby,” Peppers said. “I want to make plays, go out there and win ball games.”

Making plays and winning games isn’t something the Giants have done a lot of this season. With a 1-5 mark heading into their matchup against the visiting Carolina Panthers (3-3), the Giants will be home underdogs again and the likelihood the team will be sellers at the trade deadline grows larger and larger.

The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 2 and with so many areas to address, and Peppers’ contract being up after this season, the writing could already be on the wall for the New Jersey native.

The Giants have given up 114 points so far this year, 26th in the league, which has become one of many reasons why they sit in last place in the NFC East. Peppers, who has only been in the league for five years, could be a piece that a contending team needs, and the Giants could use the draft capital for the organization’s plans after the season.

If winning is what Peppers wants, and the Giants are in no position to promise that to him right now, he may need to be moved for both sides’ sake.

Peppers was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2017 before being traded to the Giants in 2019 in the Odell Beckham Jr. deal. In his short time with the Giants, Peppers made an immediate impact, becoming captain on special teams and serving a role as someone that can do it all on defense, especially in the tackle department.

So far this year, Peppers has 25 tackles in six games.
