Giants’ Brian Daboll wants Daniel Jones to be more aggressive in 2022
The New York Giants chose not to exercise the fifth-year option on quarterback Daniel Jones’ contract for the 2023 season.
The 2019 first-round selection’s option was due May 2 but the Giants elected to decline it rather that past Jones approximately $22 million next season.
Head coach Brian Daboll has said he likes many things he has seen in Jones, specifically his leadership skills, and is gearing to help Jones reach his maximum potential this season.
For that to happen, Jones needs to make some changes and that could entail taking more chances to increase his big play ability.

Jones is basically entering a “prove-it” year where he has to show marked improvement in order to continue his tenure with the Giants. Since throwing 24 touchdowns versus 12 interceptions in his rookie season, Jones had tossed just 21 touchdowns against 17 interceptions in 25 games over the past two years.
The good news is that Daboll’s offense promises to be more aggressive than the previous regime. That works to Jones’ advantage — he’s one of the best deep ball passers in the NFL.
With an improved offensive line and more playmakers at his disposal, Jones will certainly benefit.
