Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, who led the Bulldogs to two straight national championships, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication in Dallas early Sunday morning. Police confirmed the arrest to Dallas news station WFAA.

Police had responded to reports of a man banging on doors in Old East Dallas. When they arrived, they found the 25-year-old Bennett, and “and determined he was intoxicated,” per a police news release.

As WFAA reported, “the release did not say if Bennett was the man reportedly banging on doors, and it did not say where, specifically, they located him.”

Bennett is projected to be a late-round selection in the 2023 NFL draft. He led the Bulldogs to a 65-7 win over TCU in the most recent College Football Championship.

Hardly the ideal time for such shenanigans, but we’ll wait and see what further news brings — as will NFL teams with possible interest in Bennett.
