Georgia Bulldogs hold off stubborn Jacksonville with late run at the free-throw line; Dolphins women win

Jacksonville University transfer center Osayi Osifo led a second-half effort for the Dolphins but the University of Georgia held on for a 69-58 victory on Tuesday at the Stegman Coliseum in Athens, Ga.

JU (4-3) trailed by as many as 15 points early in the second half but Osifo, who played for the Florida Gators last year, scored six of his 11 points after that and made a layup off a feed from Tommy Bruner to cut the Bulldogs lead to 56-48 with 4:00 left.

Georgia (4-5) answer with a basket by Jaxon Etter and a 3-pointer by Jabri Abdur-Rahim, then made 6 of 6 free throws down the stretch.

Mike Marsh led JU with 15 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Osifo had five rebounds.

Braelen Bridges led Georgia with 14 points.

JU plays North Carolina-Wilmington at home on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Balance key for JU women

Seven players scored in the first quarter and six ended in double figures as the Jacksonville women's team routed Warner University 91-44 on Wednesday at Swisher Gym.

JU (6-2) jumped out to leads of 14-2 and 22-8, with Asiah Jones and Kaykay Hayes scoring six points each.

Shynia Jackson then scored eight points in the second period, including two 3-pointers, as the Dolphins stretched their lead over the Royals (0-4) to 47-19 by halftime.

Jackson led the Dolphins with 19 points on 8 of 12 shooting, and added seven rebounds, four steals and four assists. Makayla Edwards and Da'Nasia Shaw had 13 points each and Hayes and Jones had 12 each, Hayes had eight rebounds and Jones four rebounds and three blocked shots.
