Gas prices jump in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, but drop elsewhere

Sep. 26—Gas prices were a flip of the coin last week, with Santa Fe and New Mexico on the losing side.

Santa Fe had a huge jump of 20 cents per gallon Thursday from the prior week to reach an average regular unleaded price of $3.73 per gallon, with Albuquerque close behind with a 16-cent increase to $3.67 per gallon, according to the AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch.

Meanwhile, Las Cruces and Farmington each saw their average price drop 1 cent. The New Mexico statewide average rose 11 cents to $3.68 — matching the national average, though the national average gas price rose only 2 cents, AAA revealed.

Gas prices dropped in 29 states last week — as much as 13 cents in Rhode Island, 12 cents in Connecticut and 11 cents in several Northeast states, and rose in 21 states — as much as 16 cents in Iowa and 11 cents in New Mexico and Oklahoma.

Overall, New Mexico is No. 22 for most expensive gas among states.

Local supply and demand dynamics likely are contributing to the increase that some New Mexico cities are seeing at the pump, AAA concluded.
