An early morning fire in a backyard garage spread to a home in Thomasville on Monday, according to Thomasville Fire Marshal Glen Pressley.

Reached via cellphone while still on the scene Monday morning, Pressley said the call for the fire at 208 Kate Dr. came in at 5:10 a.m. Someone was in the garage when the fire started, he said, but they got out of the garage safely.

The home and backyard building were heavily damaged, according to a press release sent later Monday evening by the Thmasvlle Fire & Rescue Department. Adjacent properties were damaged by the fire, as well.

No one was in the house when the fire spread to it, Pressley said. No injuries were reported at the other properties.

The fire was declared under control at 5:50 a.m. Thomasville Fire Engine 23 remained on scene until 10 am.

The cause and origin are still under investigation as is normal and customary with fires of this nature.
