Mariah Reynolds, 6, is in first grade at Bill Hefner Elementary School.

She was nominated as a Future Black History Maker because "She is full of brilliant ideas and not afraid of sharing with her family and peers. Mariah aspires to be a singer or dancer when she gets older. She is super confident and enjoys learning new things. She wants to change the world through her voice and expressive dancing," her nominator writes.

What makes your child a Future Black History Maker? Mariah is a descendant of women who have made a tremendous impact in their communities throughout history. Both her maternal and paternal great-grandmothers have been recognized for their hard work and dedication to standing up against all odds in their local communities during times when it was unpopular. It is not only in her blood but every day she shows it is in her heart that she is destined to paint her own path and do great things as a Future Black History Maker. We believe Mariah will have a great impact on history in her own unique way just by being who she is and not being scared to tell or show it!

Why are you proud of your child? We are proud of our child for her imagination, endless curiosity, big heart and ability to make people smile and laugh just by being herself.
