Fundraising website set up for Berks woman hospitalized nine months with COVID

Feb. 26—A nine-month hospital stay isn't cheap.

That's how long Bonnie Reilly spent in three different facilities battling COVID-19, a strenuous stretch that saw the 66-year-old Muhlenberg Township woman fight an uphill battle that included time in a medically induced coma.

Reilly was finally able to return home this month. But the treatment that saved her life was costly, as well as her ongoing rehabilitation.

That's why friends of hers have begun trying to wrangle up some financial help.

A fundraising campaign has been set up through gofundme.com to collect money for Reilly's ongoing medical costs. As of Friday morning, it had raised nearly $1,800 of its $5,000 goal.

Reilly's husband, Bill, said the effort is much appreciated, but not surprising. He said that's just the way the Berks County community is, always willing to lend a hand to someone in need.

"It's just people who want to help," he said.

The donation site can be found by visiting gofundme.com and searching for "Bonnie COVID fund."
