Fundraiser 'Cars Under the Stars' replaces Dancing with the Broomfield Stars

Jun. 23—Instead of a chance to Dance with the Broomfield Stars, residents are invited to a drive-in movie — under the stars.

The Broomfield Community Foundation's annual summer fundraiser looks different this year. The years-long tradition of Dancing with the Broomfield Stars was canceled and replaced with a pandemic-friendly alternative to raise money for this year's annual grants.

"Cars Under the Stars" will take place Aug. 6 and will feature the film "The Greatest Showman," displayed on a giant screen set up in a parking lot at FlatIron Crossing. The evening starts at 5:15 p.m. with VIP entry, and general admission opens at 5:45 p.m.

Broomfield Community Foundation Executive Director Marianna Williamson said the event was planned months ago when the pandemic's direction was unclear. The drive-in set up allows for individuals to watch the movie outside, and those who would prefer to watch a movie from their car can do so, too.

"Dancing with the Broomfield Stars, or a large scale gala-type gathering, was just not feasible this year due to the planning required and uncertainty of distancing regulations" Williamson said. "So Cars Under the Stars seemed like a perfect scenario to accommodate everyone. We wanted to meet our supporters and community members where they are with regard to their comfort level for gathering."

Tickets will go on sale in early July. The evening will feature Infinitus Pie (iPIE) and Kona Ice food trucks on site, as well as online ordering and delivery from Bad Daddy's Burger Bar and Red Robin.

Members of the Broomfield Community Foundations' Youth Advisory Committee will also serve concessions during the movie. The money raised through concessions will go toward grants where the Youth Advisory Committee sees fit.

The foundation's annual grant cycle is open for applications, and grants will be awarded in September. The foundation hopes to surpass last year's grant goal, but Williamson noted not as much money has been donated this year.

"The foundation has relied heavily on the funds raised at Dancing with the Stars for our annual granting and to simply keep the foundation going," Williamson said. "So, we are hoping that our generous and loyal supporters will continue supporting at the same level as in the past by sponsoring and or donating at the outdoor movie."

The fundraiser also features a summer sweepstakes giveaway with a chance to earn $5,000. Community members can enter the sweepstakes until the movie starts. For additional details visit bit.ly/3d21qGv.

"Although it looks different, we think this community and family-friendly option is still sure to provide a fun evening of entertainment that benefits our community," Williamson said.
