Fritch man dies in early Saturday crash

A Fritch man is dead following an early Saturday morning crash north of Amarillo.

Texas Department of Public Safety officers were called to the scene of the accident at 1:55 a.m. Saturday about 9 miles north of the city.

Rodney Valle, 53, of Fritch, was pronounced dead at the scene by the justice of the peace, according to a DPS news release.

Valle was traveling north on State Highway 136 when his vehicle left the roadway. He attempted to regain control and stay on the roadway, but overcorrected and lost control of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, the release states.

The vehicle went across the roadway in a side skid and hit the ditch, where it rolled. Valle wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was ejected, the release states.

Officials believe alcohol to be a contributing factor to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
