Friends star Courteney Cox surprised a taxi driver in Scotland when she hitched a ride in his cab.

Edinburgh taxi driver Fraser Ogilvie was delighted when the 55-year-old actress jumped in the back of his cab and asked for a ride to concert venue Usher Hall, before agreeing to pose for a selfie.

Cox – best known for her role as Monica Geller in the hit sitcom – was in Scotland to support her boyfriend, Snow Patrol singer Johnny McDaid.

Ogilvie said he waived the fare in exchange for a photo with the actress, but later joked she hadn’t given him a tip.

He tweeted: "Just a friend in the taxi #naetip".

Ogilvie told the Scottish Daily Record: "I’m a black cabbie in town and took her to the Usher Hall to see her partner's gig.

“My wife is the biggest Friends fan too and would have killed me if I never got a photo."

Cox and rocker McDaid, 43, have been dating since 2013. They announced their engagement in 2014 only to call it off, but have remained a couple.

Cox was previously married to actor David Arquette from 1999 to 2012. They have a 15-year-old daughter, Coco.

Cox is rumoured to be reuniting with co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer for a Friends reunion special to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary.

Aniston recently joined Instagram and her very first post was a selfie with the rest of her Friends co-stars.

Cox, Aniston and Kudrow have remained friends since the show came to an end in 2004.
