Friday's HS sports highlights: Dover boys basketball opens with ECOL road win

T.C. Molk fired in 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Ayden Hall added 10 points as Dover downed host Warren Local 55-47 in a season and East Central Ohio League boys basketball opener for the Crimson Tornadoes at Vincent Friday night.

Bob Von Kaenel, entering his 42nd year of coaching and 31st at Dover, improved to 541-157 as the Crimson Tornadoes bench boss and is the winningest coach in Tuscarawas County history.

Brayden Sallee led Warren (0-2, 0-1) with 17 points and Trent Taylor added 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Dover JV team won 63-40 as Zane Conner scored 14, while Carter Grove and Bronson Gilyard added 13 each.

In the freshman game, Warren won 41-26. Mason Grewell and Caden Schie each had nine for Dover.

Tusky Valley 44, Strasburg 34

Logan Stotzer tallied 20 points as Tusky Valley topped Strasburg in a battle of Inter-Valley Conference unbeatens.

Tusky Valley (3-0) was on top 10-8 after the first quarter, 26-19 at the half and 35-28 going to the fourth quarter of this crossover contest.

Cody Robinson was next in scoring for the Trojans with nine and Silas Miller added seven.

Andrew Harvey and Dylan Walker each had 10 points to lead the Tigers (2-1). Cole Hutchison was next with six.

Strasburg won the JV contest 42-29.

Central Catholic 70, Claymont 65

Zander Sabin fired in 32 points to lead host Tuscarawas Central Catholic to a win in the Saints season opener, a Inter-Valley Conference crossover decision over Claymont.

Jacob Renicker added 18 points for the winners and Jordan Cherry just missed double figures with nine.

Brody Moreland led Claymont (1-2) with 13 points and Connor Lynch added 11.

The Claymont JV team won 54-20.

Indian Valley 65, Conotton Valley 31

Lucas Hagan had 18 points and Tyson Pryor put in 13 as Indian Valley improved to 2-0 after defeating host Conotton Valley in an Inter-Valley Conference crossover contest.

Indian Valley led 15-8 after one quarter, 31-20 at the half and 46-28 heading to the fourth quarter.

Garson Imes led Conotton Valley (1-2) with 18.

Malvern 57, Garaway 38

Michael Minor fired in 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead host Malvern to an Inter-Valley Conference crossover win over Garaway.

The Hornets (2-0) trailed 9-6 after the opening quarter, but took a 20-18 lead at the half and was on top 34-24 going to the final quarter.

Noah Ball was next in scoring for Malvern with eight points. The Hornets shot 49 percent from the floor.

Alex Roden led Garaway (0-1) with 14 points and Drew Mullet added nine.

The Garaway JV team was victorious 41-38.

Ridgewood 54, East Canton 36

Kadin Bradford tallied 18 points and Kigenn Millender added 10 as visiting Ridgewood defeated East Canton in an Inter-Valley Conference crossover contest.

Kauelen Smith added eight points and Josiah Cahill put in seven for the winners (2-0), who led 21-12 after one quarter, 34-23 at the half and 42-31 going to the fourth quarter.

Luke Riley led East Canton (0-1) with 14 points.

River View 56, New Lexington 51

Brody Border poured in 21 points, Owen Emig added 16 and Bryson Fey chipped in 11 as host River View recorded a Muskingum Valley League win over New Lexington.

Gage Summers added eight points for the winners.

New Lexington led 15-11 after one quarter and 26-23 at the half before the Black Bears took a 37-36 edge into the final frame.

Lucas Ratliff led New Lex with 22 points and Isaack Dick added 11.

In the JV contest, New Lex won 38-33.

Sandy Valley def. Newcomerstown

Sandy Valley picked up an Inter-Valley Conference crossover win at Newcomerstown.

The Cardinals improved to 2-1, while the Trojans dropped to 0-4.

Harrison Central 64, Edison 25

Host Harrison Central rolled to a win over Edison.

After the teams were tied at 7-7 after one quarter it was all Harrison Central.

The Huskies had a big second quarter and led 28-15 at the half and extended their lead to 50-21 after three quarters.

Marlington 75, Carrollton 36

Seven different Marlington players hit 3-pointers as the Dukes shot 11-of-19 from 3-point land en route to an Eastern Buckeye Conference win over host Carrollton.

Marlington hit five in the opening quarter as it led 21-7 after the first eight minutes of play. For the game, Marlington shot 61% from the field.

Casey Miller led the winners with 17 points, Connor Evanich added 15 and Drew Simmons put in 11.

Jaxon Rinkes led Carrollton with a game-high 19 points.

In JV action, Marlington won 42-37.

Sheridan 45, Coshocton 38

Raine Rodich scored 11 points and Reed Coconis added 10 as host Sheridan knocked off Coshocton in an Muskingum Valley League opener.

Coshocton led 13-5 after one quarter and 23-20 at the half, but Sheridan took a 32-27 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Abe Jarvis led Coshocton with 11 points and Zach Jennings as next with eight.

CVCA 42, Fairless 40

Host Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy came from behind to defeat Fairless in a Principals Athletic Conference game.

Swimming

Dover vs. Marlington

The Dover High School swim teams hosted their 2021-22 season with a home meet against Marlington High School.

The Dover boys topped Marlington 140-15 and the girls were defeated by a score of 90-79.

Leading the team with four first-place finishes for the Crimson Tornadoes were Blaze Burris and Lucas Lane.

Bowling

Indian Valley vs. East Canton

East Canton swept visiting Indian Valley.

The East Canton boys won 2,019-1,638 as Bryce Beadnell fired a 421 series (213-208) and Jaxson McDonald added a 321 (160-161).

Daniel Grewell led Indian Valley with a 384 (205-179) and Grant McCray was next with a 289 (146-134).

The East Canton girls won 1,644-1,544 as Rachel Simpkins rolled a 304 (161-143) and Annabella Kovach added a 299 (167-132).

Zoe Blickensderfer led IV with 326 (186-140) and Kiana Stevens posted a 261 (137-124).

River View vs. Garaway

The River View girls team rolled to a 1,953-1688 win over host Garaway at Boulevard Lanes to start the season 2-0.

Leading the way was freshman Maeve Gentile with games of 171 and 182 for a 353 and junior Emma Ward with games of 196 and 141 for a 337. Gentile had her new high game of 182 as Ward set her new high game at 196 and new high series.
