Friday's high school scores: Somerset Berkley softball hammers Old Rochester

MATTAPOISETT — The Somerset Berkley softball team pounded out 17 hits on Friday, cruising to a mercy-rule 14-2 win over league opponent Old Rochester on the road.

Laney Martin pitched the first three innings for SBR (13-4), allowing no hits, no runs while striking out seven. Gabriella Nugent pitched the final two innings, giving up just a hit, no earned runs and fanned two batters

Nugent swung the big stick for the Raiders and finished with three hits, including a two- run home run, double and four RBI.

Mary Jo-Laudati  (RBI, walk), Jordan Theriault  (double, RBI), Lynnsey Bumpus (walk),

Sydney Dufresne (two RBI), Laney Martin (two doubles, RBI),  and Alexis Ridge (two doubles, RBI) each finished with a pair of hits in the win.

Makenzie Jacob and Sydney Bednarz capped the scoring with a hit apiece.

SBR hosts Seekonk on Monday.

Dartmouth 14, Durfee 13, 13 inn.

The Hilltoppers lost a thriller in 13 innings to Dartmouth.

Emily Curran pitched all 13 innings for Durfee (2-13) and had three hits on the offensive end. Niyah Boone and Mia Jacob also had three hits and scored three runs each. Brooke Silvia and Boone played great defensively in the field.

The Hilltoppers had a 11-8 lead in the seventh and 13-11 lead in extra innings. The Indians came back both times to pull out the win

Durfee hosts Brockton on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Somerset Berkley 5, Old Rochester 3

The Raiders edged Old Rochester at home.

Matt Almeida got the win on the hill for SBR (11-6; 8-3 in SCC). He allowed five hits, three runs, one unearned run and two walks in five innings. Cole Taylor picked up the save in relief, giving up one hit, no runs, a walk while striking out four.

Taylor and Dean Gobeil (RBI) each had two hits. Drew Crook and Ben Oliveira finished with a hit and two RBI in the win.

The Raiders travel to Seekonk on Monday.

Joseph Case 3, Wareham 0

The Cardinals blanked league opponent Wareham on the road.

Colby Smith pitched the complete game on the hill for Case (11-6; 6-5 in SCC), allowing two hits, no walks while striking out six.

Will LeBoeuf had a pair of hits and scored a run on offense while Jake Pontes (walk, run scored), Aidan Bates (run scored, RBI) and Braden Ventura (RBI) each finished with a hit. The Cardinals scored a run in the third and two more in the fifth.

Wareham threatened in the seventh with runners at second and third, but Smith induced a fly ball out to end the game.

The Cardinals host Fairhaven on Monday.

Thursday

Atlantis Charter 13, Avon 5

The Tritons defeated Avon on Thursday.

Jaryn Mitchell collected the win on the hill for Atlantis Charter (6-8). Dom DeOlivera contributed an RBI while Mike Johnson scored a pair of runs.

The Tritons got a bases-loaded by Troy Senez walk to start the scoring.

ACH will travel to Cape Cod Tech. on Monday.

BOYS TENNIS

Somerset Berkley 5, Wareham 0

The Raiders swept all five matches from league opponent Wareham.

Joseph Ramos, Tyler Barros and Zach Costa lost just three games combined in six sets during singles competition for SBR (11-4). Mason Sawyer and Ian Jepson won 6-0, 6-1 at first doubles while freshman Nate Melo and senior Pedro Barrera recorded their first career varsity victories at second doubles, 6-3, 4-6, 10-0.

The Raiders play a makeup game against Joseph Case on Monday.

Dartmouth 4, Durfee 1

The Hilltoppers dropped four of five matches against league opponent Dartmouth.

Chris Panchley won by forfeit at second singles for Durfee (12-4; 5-2 in SEC) after Dylan Marshall was ruled ineligible. JackFitzgerald and Will Rumsey lost an exciting first doubles match, 5-7, 6-0, 6-3.

The Hilltoppers host Taunton on Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Dartmouth 4, Durfee 1

The Hilltoppers dropped their league match against Dartmouth.

Freshman Brooke Tabicas collected her first varsity win for Durfee (6-9) at singles competition, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.

Second doubles team Gabby Farias and Toni Freitas lost a marathon event, 6-7, 13-15.

The Hilltoppers take on Taunton on Tuesday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

New Bedford 3, Durfee 0

The Hilltoppers dropped all three sets — 22-25, 22-25, and 28-30 — against New Bedford.

Jack Gauvin led Durfee (6-12) with 30 assists. Josh Sanon chipped in with eight kill shots and Tony Gomes finished with six kill shots.

Thursday

BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK

Joseph Case

The Cardinal boys placed seventh during Thursday's South Coast Conference Championship at Apponequet Regional High School.

Top five placements for Case (2-2) were Jacob Janicki (discus; 102'), Cullen Byrne (javelin; 131'1"), Devin Silva (200; 24.34 and triple jump), Charles Cabral (shot put; 40'1") and the 4x800 relay team of Caydon Gonsalves, Kyron Nell, and Aidan Parent.

Other top performers were Joey Garell (100), Nathan Woods (triple jump) and Preston Dyer (javelin) and the 4x100 relay team of Silva, Matt Howard, Nathan Viveiros, and Garell.

The Cardinals will next compete at the Division VI state meet at Westfield High on May 28.

Thursday

GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK

Joseph Case

The Cardinal girls tied for second during Thursday's South Coast Conference Championship at Apponequet Regional High School.

Ashlyn Byrnes was named SCC champion in the two-mile (12:17) and took third place in the mile (5:49) for Case. Hannah Santos was named SCC champion in the triple jump and placed sixth in the long jump. The 4x800 relay team of Emily Greene, Jamie Moniz, Hannah Storm, and Byrnes was named SCC champion and set a new school record with a time of 10:35.

Other athletes for Case (4-1), who finished in the Top 6 were Tori Bettencourt (400; long jump), Moniz (triple jump), Greene (400 hurdles), Hannah Storm (javelin and mile), Morgan Fitzgerald (javelin), Rylie Macdonald (discus) and the 4x400 relay team of Deanna Brightman, Kambree Nell, Kaelyn Lecomte, and Emma Villarrubia.

The Cardinals will next compete at the Division VI state meet at Westfield High on May 28.
