Friday's high school highlights

Mar. 6—BOYS BASKETBALL

HIAWATHA VALLEY LEAGUE

—Jake Braaten scored 15 points, Ahjany Lee had 14 and Trent DeCook added 13 as Byron defeated Stewartville 62-47. Nolan Stier had 13 points for the Tigers. Stewartville standout Will Tschetter did not play due to a wrist injury as the Tigers drop to 12-3, 11-1 in the HVL Gold Division. Byron improves to 12-1, 10-1 in the HVL Gold Division.

—Hunter Lorenson scored 17 points and Justin Wohlers added 12 as Lake City nipped Cannon Falls 41-40 for its second straight close win in as many nights. Wohlers hit what proved to be the game winning 3-pointer with 1:52 remaining as Lake City won despite scoring just three points the final six minutes. Marcus Banks scored a game-high 18 points for the Bombers while Camden Dicke had 10 points and a whopping 18 rebounds.

THREE RIVERS CONFERENCE

—Kooper Vaughn was absolutely ridiculous. The St. Charles sharpshooter erupted for 41 points and St. Charles held off La Crescent 62-58. The Lancers were led by Carter Todd's 22 points. They outscored the Saints by 10 in the second half but just couldn't dig out of the hole.

SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE

—Caden Grinde and Elijah Solum both scored 15 points and Carson Gerard added 14 as Spring Grove wrapped up the Three Rivers East Division title with a 61-54 win over Southland. Ethan Forthun had 18 points for Southland and Nice Boe added 13.

—LeRoy-Ostrander held off Mabel-Canton 63-50 thanks to 20 points from Chase Johnson and 18 from Isaac Collier. M-C's Cayden Tollefsrud drained five 3-pointers and scored 20 points.

NON-CONFERENCE

—Lourdes snapped its 11-game losing streak with a 59-49 win over Plainview-Elgin-Millville. Two Lourdes players had double-doubles as Peyton Dunham had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Lado Lowala had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Peyton Schumacher led P-E-M (12-3) with 12 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BIG NINE CONFERENCE

—John Marshall trailed by just five at the half and couldn't dig out of the hole due to an ice-cold shooting night. Owatonna pulled away down the stretch and handed the Rockets a 52-35 loss. Sara Kingland scored 20 points for the Huskies. The Rockets were led by Lilly Meister and Ava Haglund who both scored 12 points.

—Albert Lea edged Century 58-56 in a barnburner. Taya Jeffrey scored 21 points and Kendall Kenis added 14 in the win. The Panthers were led by Kennedy Speer's 16 points. Jordyn Sutton added 15.

HIAWATHA VALLEY LEAGUE

—C.J. Adamson could not be stopped. The Lourdes star had 22 points and Ella Hopkins chipped in 14 points in the Eagles' big 63-27 win over Pine Island. Lourdes led 43-15 at the half and cruised down the stretch. Madison Hudson scored a team-high eight points for Pine Island.

—Mya Suess and 17 points and eight rebounds and Aby Schubert had 15 points and eight boards as Kasson-Mantorville rolled past Byron 54-30.

—Arianna Thomforde had 10 points as Goodhue handled Zumbrota-Mazeppa 66-20.

—Natalie Bremer had 23, Mya Shones added 16 and Lilly Meincke chipped in 10 in Lake City's 74-27 win over Kenyon-Wanamingo. Stella Rechtzigel scored 14 for the Knights in a losing effort.

—Thirteen different Tigers scored, led by Jolie Stecher's 13 points and 11 rebounds and Keeley Steele's 12 points in Stewartville's big 70-37 victory over Cannon Falls. Taylor Johnson scored 10 points and ripped down 11 rebounds for the Bombers.

THREE RIVERS CONFERENCE

—Alexis Schroeder scored 22 and Paige Klug add 14 as Caledonia slipped past Winona Cotter 60-52. Megan Morgan drained six 3-pointers and had 24 points for Cotter.

GOPHER CONFERENCE

—Blooming Prairie held off Hayfield 59-45 thanks to 18 points from Bobbie Bruns and 14 from Megan Oswald. The Vikings were led by Natalie Beaver's 19 points (five 3-pointers) and Nine Stasko's 14 points.

SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE

—Larissa Goslee had 17 points and five rebounds while Kelsey Mensink added 13 points as Southland defeated Spring Grove 68-24.

WRESTLING

THREE RIVERS CONFERENCE

—Fillmore Central held off Triton 37-36 thanks to pins from Devin Troendel and Seth Rolfs. Colby Hobbs, Owen Garness and Mason Barker all had pins for Triton.

BOYS SWIMMING/DIVING

—Owen Nord was part of four winning events to help Century place second in the 12-team Big Nine Conference meet. Northfield won the conference title followed by Century and Mayo. Nord repeated as the champion in the 50 freestyle and broke his own meet record with a time of 21.15 seconds. He also won the 100 freestyle (46.80) and he was part of two winning relays. Ethan Yao of Mayo and Logan Kelly of Austin both won a pair of individual events. The two seniors tied for first in the 200 freestyle in 1:44.37. Yao also claimed the 100 backstroke in 53.15 while Kelly won the 100 breaststroke in 56.95.

GYMNASTICS

HIAWATHA VALLEY LEAGUE

—Sawyer Gorman won all four individual events plus the all-around with a score of 37.025 to lead Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa past Kasson-Mantorville/Triton 143.9-110.875.
