QUINCY – Excavation for the multiuse development at the site of the former Citizens Bank building downtown is nearing completion as FoxRock Properties works to renovate two side-by-side lots on Hancock Street.

The developer warned residents last week that traffic disruption will continue through at least September 2023 on Russell Park as construction goes on. Both new developments are scheduled to be finished in early 2024.

The projects will include  major renovations to the  Masonic Temple at 1170 Hancock St. and the former bank building at 1200 Hancock St.

Demolition of the bank building is finished, the concrete foundation wall is nearing completion and the backfilling of foundations, utility installation and structural steel installation is ongoing.

Across Russell Park at the Masonic Temple, detailing and metallic decking is underway, as is utility and shaft installation. Wood framing is expected to begin in mid-October.

The temple has sat empty since 2014, when a four-alarm fire gutted the 1920s-era building. The plan is to renovate the two-story building and make room for a restaurant. FoxRock will then build a six-story addition onto the back of the building, which will be connected on the lower levels, for 66 apartments and 6,500 square feet of retail space.

Where the Citizens Bank building stood will be a six-story building with 3,800 square feet of retail space, 135 apartments and a second-floor, open-air pool deck for residents. The units will be a mix of studio, one bedroom and two bedrooms.

FoxRock, the development company owned by Granite Telecommunications CEO Rob Hale, did not seek any variances for the projects.

The company also has the rights to develop the former Ross Lot downtown and plans to build a large life science building, restaurant and parking garage. The redevelopment of Hospital Hill – replacing Quincy's former medical center with more than 400 residential units – is also a FoxRock project.

Work continues at the FoxRock development at the former Quincy Hospital property on Whitwell Street on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022.
