Fowlerville wins second quad of young tennis season

Fowlerville’s tennis team made it 2-for-2 on the young season, winning a home quad meet by a 19-18 margin over Ionia.

Milan third with 11 points and Eaton Rapids was scoreless.

The Gladiators won three of four doubles flights, while Ionia won three of four singles flights.

Ryder Lukasik won the No. 4 singles championship for Fowlerville, which opened the season Monday by winning the Livingston County quad over Hartland, Howell and Pinckney.

Alex Jonas and Oliver Farmer won at No. 1 doubles, Griffin Gonzalez and Ethan Way won at No. 2 doubles, and Ben Durbin and Drake Cook won at No. 4 doubles for Fowlerville.

Fowlerville’s Lucas Anderson was the No. 1 singles runner-up, losing 6-1, 7-6 (4) to Ionia’s Sam Eppler in the championship match.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Fowlerville scored two goals in the first two minutes of the second half on shots by Ryan Laimonis and Rogelio Rodriguez. Ian Hartke scored the Gladiators’ other goal. Owen Smith made 13 saves for Fowlerville.
