Fourth of July fanfare kicks off in Simi Valley for long holiday weekend

Celebrations for the Fourth of July holiday weekend started Saturday in Simi Valley, where the Star-Spangled Rock 'N Country Jam and fireworks event opened at noon at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park.

The Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley teamed up with the city and the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District to host the free gathering, with corporate and private sponsors chipping in. Live country music, kids activities, food and fireworks were part of the mix.
