PHILADELPHIA — With rain, wind and chilly temperatures dominating the early forecast at Lincoln Financial Field, the Jacksonville Jaguars weren't able to get it done against the Eagles for the team's third road game of the season, losing 29-21.

It wasn't just the weather that enabled the Jacksonville (2-2) loss, though. Sloppy play all around and an inability to stop the Eagles (4-0) on key possessions ultimately cost the team the victory Sunday.

Before the game, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson was introduced to Eagles faithful, who gave the former Eagles coach a standing ovation. Pederson led the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory in 2017.

Coming off yet another win, Jacksonville was attempting to do something they hadn't done since 2018 — start the year off 3-1.

Prior to the action, the Jaguars ruled out wide receiver Zay Jones due to an ankle injury. Jones was among the seven players the team ruled out, including outside linebacker K'Lavon Chaisson (ankle) and offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen (hamstring).

As corresponding moves, the Jaguars elevated LB Ty Summers and offensive lineman Daryl Williams from the practice squad to the team's active roster.

Cornerback Shaq Griffin, who also entered the game questionable to play, played today after missing last week's contest against the Los Angeles Rams due to a hip injury. The Eagles entered the game without their starting nickel defensive back Avonte Maddox.

Jaguars dominate first quarter, Andre Cisco records pick-six

Sunday's game featured a quick start for the Jaguars as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead during the first quarter. Jacksonville was able to total five first downs, with Lawrence completing 4 of 6 passes for 68 yards and a four-yard touchdown toss to receiver Jamal Agnew.

Defensively, Jacksonville forced the Eagles into unfavorable positions early, including a fourth down on two out of three of Philadelphia's possessions during the first quarter. They allowed just 16 yards on the ground through the first 15 minutes of action.

On the Eagles' first possession of the game, Jacksonville would score on a pick-six after nickel Darious Williams tipped a Jalen Hurts throw to safety Andre Cisco, who returned it 59 yards to score the first points of the game.

It was the first pick-six for Jacksonville since former Jaguars linebacker Joe Schobert returned one in 2020 against the Minnesota Vikings.

That was about it as far as positives go for the Jaguars, though.

Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence fumble away second quarter

The second quarter, though, was all Eagles, with Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence fumbling the football twice, losing both. Lawrence's first fumble came on fourth-and-three as Jacksonville was driving the football on the Eagles' 34-yard-line. The ball slipped right out of Lawrence's hand.

Lawrence's second fumble of the day came as Lawrence and center Luke Fortner were unable to make a proper exchange, giving the Eagles the football as the Jacksonville 34-yard-line.

Both fumbles lost by Jacksonville turned into touchdowns by the Eagles, giving them a 20-14 lead heading into halftime. The Jacksonville defense regressed on the ground, too, allowing 95 yards rushing to the Eagles during the second quarter of action.

Philly was able to secure three rushing touchdowns, one a piece by Hurts and running backs Miles Sanders and Kenneth Gainwell.

Eagles dominate time of possession, Jaguars struggle to stop Miles Sanders

Through the first three quarters of the game, the Jaguars couldn't seem to stack together enough possessions, giving the Eagles plenty of time on the field. Philadelphia led the time-of-possession battle with 28:03 to Jacksonville's 16:57.

Much of that was due to the fantastic play of Sanders, who led all Eagles backs with 17 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown. Through three quarters, Sanders had also caught two passes for 22 yards. Sanders finished with 27 rushing attempts for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles totaled 162 yards through three quarters of action, and that would continue through the fourth quarter. The Eagles finished with 401 total yards, including 210 yards on the ground.

Trevor Lawrence's turnovers ruin any opportunity for a comeback

The Jaguars couldn't get it done today, primarily thanks to losing the turnover battle for a second time this season. Jacksonville finished with just one interception on defense while turning the ball over via four fumbles and one pick offensively. All four lost fumbles were credited to Lawrence.

Though Jacksonville's defense was able to stop the Eagles on multiple occasions, including forcing Philly to go 4-of-14 on third downs, they gave up far too many first downs throughout the day, including 13 on the ground and eight through the air.

The Eagles won the turnover battle (+4), including four fumble recoveries and an interception. That enabled the team to score three touchdowns, all on the ground for the Eagles. Coming into today's contest, the Jaguars hadn't allowed a single touchdown on the ground to opponents.

Lawrence's four lost fumbles included two strip-sacks by Eagles LB Haason Reddick, one dropped by Lawrence and a botched snap between Lawrence and center Luke Fortner.
