Nine people shot, four fatally, in Baltimore weekend violence
Nine people were shot in Baltimore this weekend, including four fatally, according to the Baltimore Police Department.
Most recently, at 7:52 p.m., police responded to a local hospital, where a shooting victim had walked in seeking treatment. The 69-year-old man told police he was walking in the 5700 block of Bowleys Lane in Frankford when he was shot in his buttocks. His injuries are not life-threatening.
Just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the 300 block of S. Fulton Ave. in Carrollton Ridge for a shooting detected by the city’s ShotSpotter devices.
A man was pronounced dead on the scene.
Earlier Sunday, at 7:37 a.m., police responded to the 4900 block of N. Franklintown Road for a vehicle fire. A woman inside the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.
Further investigation revealed she had been shot, so the incident is being investigated as a homicide, according to a news release from city police.
A little after 7 a.m. Sunday, police officers were called by members of the Baltimore Fire Department for a report of a man who had been found shot in the 2800 block of Manokin St. in Westport. Upon arrival, officers found the man, who was suffering from gunshot wounds, dead at the scene.
Police said witnesses reported hearing shots around 1:30 a.m.
Police also said officers responded to a hospital around 3:15 a.m. Sunday, where a man walked in seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.
The 23 year-old, who was suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his left forearm, told officers he had gotten into an argument at a bar in Baltimore County. When he was leaving, he noticed a vehicle following behind his, he told police. As he drove into the 2600 block of Wilkens Ave., the vehicle pulled alongside his and someone inside the vehicle discharged a firearm, striking him, he told police.
Police also responded to the 1600 block of W. Saratoga St. in Franklin Square just after 12:45 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shooting and found a 33-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a news release. The man was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Early Saturday morning just after 2 a.m., a 60-year-old man arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand, according to police. The man told officers he had been shot after getting into a dispute in the 4600 block of Pen Lucy Road in West Baltimore.
On Saturday evening, officers responded to the 3400 block of Leverton St. in the Baltimore Highlands neighborhood just before 8:30 p.m. and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and, due to his injuries, homicide detectives are investigating, police said.
Earlier Saturday, a Morgan State student was shot in the chest on campus around 6:30 p.m. The 18-year-old student was taken to a hospital where he is “conscious, alert and stable,” according to a news release. Northeast District shooting detectives are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call detectives at 410-396-2444.
