Four Panhandle programs ranked No. 1 in latest TABC rankings

The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches released their latest Top 25 rankings for each Class throughout Texas on Monday afternoon.

A total of 10 boys' basketball programs from the Texas Panhandle made the list while eight local girls' programs also made their respective Top 25.

CLASS 5A

The Amarillo High Sandies (13-4) maintained their spot No. 4 behind Dallas Kimball (4-4), Beaumont United (10-1) and Mansfield Timberview (13-2).

The Lady Sandies (12-2) stayed put once again at No. 4 despite a 20-point win over defending 3A state champion Brownfield on Saturday. They remain behind Cedar Park (14-0), Lubbock-Cooper (9-0) and Frisco Liberty (12-3) in the rankings.

CLASS 4A

The defending state champion Canyon Lady Eagles (10-3) maintained their spot at No. 3 behind No. 1 Argyle (16-0) and No. 2 Hardin-Jefferson (10-3). Canyon defeated Panhandle and Tascosa last week and remain the only Panhandle region team in the Top 25.

The Canyon Eagles (8-4) moved into the Top 25 this week and now rank 17th in their debut to the rankings.

CLASS 3A

The unbeaten Canadian Lady Wildcats (15-0) retain their spot atop the rankings at No. 1 this week following wins over Randall (52-40) and Class 1A No. 1 Sands (13-2) last week.

Childress (4-5) maintained their spot at No. 19 despite their up-and-down start to the season and remain as the lone Class 3A boys' program in the Panhandle to have a spot in the Top 25.

CLASS 2A

Three boys teams and four girls teams from the Panhandle made the Top 25 rankings once again this week.

The Gruver Lady Greyhounds (9-0) maintained their No. 1 ranking while Panhandle (8-2) stayed right on their tails at No. 2. Wellington (8-4) also stayed steady at No. 8 while Farwell (7-1) kept their ranking at No. 13.

On the boys' side, defending state champion Clarendon (8-1) remains No. 1 after picking up five straight wins last week.

Gruver (9-4) stayed at No. 15, Farwell (7-1) fell one spot to No. 17, and Panhandle dropped out of the Top 25.

CLASS 1A

Defending state champion Texline (8-1) is still No. 1 following another week of action heading into Tuesday night's matchup in Vega against Class 2A No. 1 Clarendon.

Wildorado (13-1) moved up 11 spots following the past week of action to No. 8. The Mustangs picked up wins over Memphis (60-19), Sunray (40-30), Vega (53-23), White Deer (60-35), and Jayton (36-19) this past week while competing with Class 2A No. 1 Clarendon until the final buzzer in a two-point loss (50-48).

Springlake-Earth (5-4) kept their spot at No. 11 while Nazareth (5-6) fell two spots to No. 12.

On the girls' side, the Nazareth Swiftettes (7-7) remained locked-in at No. 6.
