Fort Myers motorcyclist, 23, dies after Friday night crash; troopers investigate speed

A 23-year-old Fort Myers man died Friday when his motorcycle collided with a car.

The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. along Imperial Parkway, near Coconut Road, in Estero, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

The motorcycle was traveling south on Imperial Parkway, approaching the intersection of Coconut Road, as the car was traveling north on Imperial Parkway, approaching the intersection of Coconut Road in the inside leftturn lane.

The car, driven by a 61-year-old Bonita Springs man, attempted to make a left turn at the intersection, in front of the approaching motorcycle.

The front of the motorcycle collided with the side of the car.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the cycle and came to rest on Imperial Parkway. The motorcycle came to a stop in the intersection.

The motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital where he died. At least four people have died on Lee County roads this year, according to data from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The other motorist suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

Troopers are working to determine the motorcycle's speed.
