Chicago White Sox pitcher Davis Martin made his Major League Baseball debut Tuesday, and it was an impressive one for the former San Angelo star.

Martin struck out seven batters and allowed only one run in five innings of work in a 2-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals.

Martin gave up five hits and issued one walk (along with a hit batter). His overall command was strong as he threw 91 pitches and delivered 64 strikes.

Martin allowed a leadoff single on an 0-2 pitch to Whit Merrifield to begin his start, but he struck out the next batter, Andrew Benintendi, on three pitches.

After hitting Bobby Witt, Martin got out of the inning with a pair of fly balls.

Doubles by Emmanuel Rivera and Michael A. Taylor in the second inning scored the only run against Martin.

He didn't allow a hit through the third and fourth innings, and he worked out of a jam after a pair of singles in the fifth.

Kansas City starter Brady Singer earned the win with seven shutout innings, while Martin was handed an unlucky loss to begin his MLB career.

Martin is a 2015 graduate of San Angelo Central High School, who played his college ball at Texas Tech University.

He joins David Hulse and Trey Lunsford as former Central Bobcats to play in the majors.
