Former Saint Clair Area superintendent expected to be tapped as Pottsville Area's next superintendent

Apr. 13—POTTSVILLE — The Pottsville Area school board is expected to name the district's next superintendent Wednesday night.

According to the meeting agenda, members will vote to hire Sarah Yoder on a three-year contract ending June 30, 2024, at an annual salary of $130,000.

She served as superintendent of neighboring Saint Clair Area School District from January 2018 to May 2020, when she left to become principal of Schuylkill Valley High School in Ontelaunee Township, Berks County, part of the Schuylkill Valley School District.

A native of Berks County, Yoder also worked in the Schuylkill Haven Area School District as the high school and elementary school principal, and director of curriculum and instruction, and was math and C++ programming teacher at Schuylkill Valley High School.

She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Wilkes University, her doctorate in educational administration from Temple University and principal certification from Alvernia University. She has also been an adjunct instructor at Gratz College, Melrose Park.

Former elementary principal Jared Gerace has served as the district's acting superintendent since July, when board members approved a medical leave of absence for then-Superintendent Jeffrey S. Zwiebel, who retired as the district's leader when his contract expired April 5.
