Former Packer James Jones trolls Lions fans, says they're the quietest in NFL

On the list of backhanded compliments, James Jones of NFL Network had one that will sit with Detroit Lions fans for a while.

Jones, a former Green Bay Packers receiver who won a Super Bowl ring at the end of the 2010 season, was asked which team might be on upset alert this week. He answered the Kansas City Chiefs, who play the Detroit Lions. He added it was because the Lions have the best home-field advantage in the NFL. Oh?

Then Jones came off the top rope on Lions fans.

James Jones: ‘You’re ready to go to sleep’

Jones started by saying on NFL Network that the Lions have “the best home-field advantage in the National Football League,” and hopefully at that moment all Lions fans just tuned out.

“The reason why is it’s a practice field environment out there. It’s very, very quiet,” Jones said. “When we used to be out at practice with Coach Mike (McCarthy), no music no nothing, you’ve got to create your own energy. Because when you get in that Detroit Lions stadium, there’s no energy in there. You walk out there and you’re ready to go to sleep. And then you look up in the fourth quarter, and it’s 21-7 Detroit winning, and you’re looking like ‘Oh, it’s time to make a play.’ But it’s too late.

“[They have] the best home field advantage in the National Football League. The Kansas City Chiefs are going to come into the building, they’re going to feel the energy, there is no energy, they’re going to try to create their own. It’s not going to be enough with that home-field advantage, and they’re going to come out flat, and they’re going to lose the game.”

Haven’t Lions fans been through enough?

Lions fans have been through a lot

Here’s another backhanded compliment, but Lions fans probably deserve more credit than that. They have been through a lot of pain.

From no division titles since 1993 or one playoff win since 1957 to Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson suddenly retiring, it has been a ridiculously bad run. The fact that they keep showing up is a credit to them.

The Chiefs come in at 3-0, and the Lions are surprisingly in first place in the NFC North at 2-0-1. If the Lions pull off the upset, Jones might be surprised how loud Ford Field will get.
