Former Memphis offensive lineman Isaac Ellis transfers to Louisiana Tech

Former Carroll all-state offensive lineman Isaac Ellis, who started seven games at left guard this season for Memphis, committed to Louisiana Tech on Wednesday.

He entered the transfer portal in November after playing three seasons with the the Tigers.

The 6-foot-2, 308-pound Ellis started 18 of 35 games at left guard, including all 11 games in 2020. However, he didn't play in the Tigers' final three regular season games this season and was not seen on the sidelines.

“Isaac Ellis is an immediate impact player for us on the offensive line,” Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Cumbie said in the school's signing day announcement. “The transfer from Memphis has great versatility to be able to play all three positions inside.”

He arrived at Memphis in 2018 as a two-star recruit. After playing three games before redshirting, Ellis appeared in all 14 games during the Tigers' run to the Cotton Bowl in 2019.

Ellis was named to the the American Athletic Conference All-Academic team in 2018 and 2019.

He helped Carroll win District 2-3A championships in 2015 and 2016. Ellis was named a USA TODAY All-America second team in 2016 and Louisiana Football Coaches Association All-State first team in 2017.
