Former Louisville football player Dejmi Dumervil-Jean has died

The Cardinals family has lost one of their own, as former defensive lineman Dejmi Dumervil-Jean has died. The 22-year-old was found on the 2300 block of Crittenden Drive a little before 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, and Dumervil-Jean’s death was announced Friday morning on Twitter through the athletics account for St. Thomas Aquinas High School, his alma mater.

“It is with great sadness that we learn the passing of this gentle giant,” the account tweeted. “St. Thomas Aquinas Football great Dejmi Dumervil-Jean’s heart was a big as his stature.”

Dumervil-Jean, nephew of former NFL defensive end and Cardinal alum Elvis Dumervil, played on the defensive line for the University of Louisville in 2018 and finished with six tackles in nine games played. The autopsy and cause of death are currently pending, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.

“We are saddened to hear about the passing of Dejmi on Thursday,” Louisville coach Scott Satterfield said. “Our condolences and prayers are extended to his family during this difficult time. He will be missed by the UofL Football family.”
