Former Google, Uber engineer facing trade secret theft charges

Anthony Levandowski, a big name in the autonomous driving space, is being charged with 33 counts of stealing trade secrets. Levandowski worked as an engineer at Google's Waymo unit, then left to start self-driving truck startup Otto. When he left Google's Waymo unit, he allegedly stole thousands of documents that eventually got into the hands of Uber when the ride-sharing startup acquired Levandowski's Otto. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine, plus restitution, for every count.
