Former assistant believes DeAndre Hopkins and Bill O’Brien would work in New England

Rumors have been swirling about the New England Patriots’ potential to acquire Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

There have been some concerns that a bridge might have been burned between Hopkins and Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, during their time together with the Houston Texans. However, former Texans wide receivers coach John Perry believes the duo would be able to work together, if the two were to reunite.

The relationship between the two hit a speed bump, when Hopkins was traded by O’Brien to the Arizona Cardinals in March 2020. Perry gave a little bit more insight into the dynamic between Hopkins and O’Brien, according to MassLive’s Mark Daniels.

“I think adult relationships are always complicated no matter what you do. But the thing is when you look at DeAndre Hopkins and his relationship with Coach O’Brien, both of them brought out the best in each other,” said Perry. “I still have a strong relationship with coach (O’Brien) and with DeAndre. He and I speak all the time.

“I know they would easily be able to work together again because they’re both professionals and both want the same thing, which is just to play at a high level and give their team the best opportunity to win.”

Hopkins would bring an immediate boost to the Patriots offense by giving them that dynamic top receiver they’ve been looking for. The Patriots’ offensive coaching staff has undergone a makeover, and it would make sense that player changes would follow suit.
