Former Ashland resident Tom Sigafoos has written an Irish historical novel that is available to interested readers at no cost through on-line subscriptions, according to a news release.

"The Cursing Stone" re-creates the shipwreck of HMS Wasp, a British gunboat that ran onto the rocks and sank near Toraigh Island, County Donegal, drowning four officers and 46 men. Readers’ reviews describe the novel as “gripping,” “a cracking read,” and “historical fiction at its best,” said the news release.

The author, the son of Dale and Jean Sigafoos, was born in Ashland and lived there from 1943 to 1958. He has lived in Ireland since 2003. His sisters Suzanne and Nancy live in Portland, Oregon, and St. Catherines, Ontario.
