Football Roundup: Valley City shuts down Wahpeton
Oct. 4—JAMESTOWN — Local high school football is off and running and multiple teams were in action over the weekend of Sept. 30.
LISBON — Lisbon High School went into halftime up 38-0 and that was enough to see them beat Northern Cass 46-6 on Friday, Sept. 30, at the Lisbon Sports Complex.
The Broncos (5-2) didn't wait long to take a lead as they handed the ball to Boeden Greenley for a two-yard-run and then a two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. Greenley kept it going with a 13-yard run and another two-point conversion to take a 16-0 lead.
The Broncos would put up 22 points in the second quarter and eight points in the third quarter. The Jaguars (1-6) got their points in the fourth quarter when quarterback Julian Leichtenberg found Matthew Metzger for a 15-yard score to cut the deficit to 46-6.
The Broncos are back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, when they host Oakes. The Jaguars attempt to end their losing streak at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7, when they face Oak Grove.

VALLEY CITY — The early first few possessions of the game between Valley City High School and Wahpeton High School was tight as the teams were tied at six. However, the Hi-Liners would pull away to get a 40-6 win over the Huskies on Friday, Sept. 30, at Valley City's Hanna Field.
The Hi-Liners (6-0) started the scoring in the first quarter when running back Gavin Gerhardt turned on the jets and went 63-yards to the house to make it 6-0. The Huskies (3-3) would tie it up when Treyton Mauch returned the kickoff 85-yards. The Hi-Liners would again turn to Gerhardt to push them in front with an 11-yard run to go up 12-6.
The Hi-Liners would take over from there with running back Zach Sykora running a ball in from 36-yards out to make it 19-6. The Hi-Liners would punch it in three more times on the ground to get the win.
The Hi-Liners are back in action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7, when they host Jamestown High School. The Huskies return to the field at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7, when they host Grand Forks Central.

PAGE — Maple River trailed Griggs-Midkota heading into the second quarter but a 28 point quarter flipped the game. The Raiders took the momentum and got a 40-8 win over the Titans on Friday, Sept. 30, at Hope-Page High School.
The Titans opened the scoring when quarterback Brady Haugen kept it himself and ran the ball in and converted the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead. The Raiders would respond when quarterback Tee Sylling aired one out to wide receiver Dylan Reamer to cut the deficit to 8-6.
The first Raiders (5-2) score in the second quarter went for a combined 99-yards as they went up 20-8. Throughout the game, the Raiders' Clay Hovelson had 89 yards on three touchdowns.
The Raiders are back in action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7, when they face May-Port-C-G. The Titans return home at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7, when they host Tri-State: Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah-Rosholt.

LINTON — The Linton/Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock decided to go for two after their first score and got it to go up 8-0. That was the difference in a 20-18 win over Sargent County on Friday, Sept. 30, at Linton High School.
The Lions (3-4) opened the scoring in the second quarter when quarterback Trace King found tight end Kashton Moser from 35-yards out to go up 6-0. The Lions gave the ball to Riley Richter who punched it in to stretch the lead out to 8-0. The Bulldogs (3-4) responded later in the quarter when quarterback Michael Hoistad aired it out to wide receiver Fletcher Willprecht for a 20-yard score to make it 8-6. The ensuing two-point conversion would fail keeping the game right where it was.
The teams would trade scores the rest of the way with all four two-point conversions failing.
The Lions return to the gridiron at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, when they take on Oak Grove. The Bulldogs are back in action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7, when they host Kindred.
