Football roundup: Jaguars put down the Patriots, 37-6

Oct. 1—DANUBE — Renville County West was able to exact some revenge on Friday night.

Hosting Hills-Beaver Creek in a top 10 showdown of nine-man football teams, the Jaguars remained undefeated with a 37-6 victory.

The two teams met up in the nine-man state quarterfinals last season, with the Patriots winning that contest, 30-7.

This time, it was eighth-ranked RCW handing fifth-ranked Hills-Beaver Creek its first loss.

The scoring opened with a safety on a combined tackle by Noah Gullickson and Hunter Ridler. Jasen Jansen scored the first of his two touchdowns to put the Jaguars ahead 9-0 in the first quarter.

Quarterback AJ Gasca tacked on two scores in the second quarter to build a 23-0 halftime lead. He broke off a 72-yard TD run, then followed up with a 30-yard pass to Isaac Haen for a score.

Gasca threw for 139 yards and ran for another 114 on six carries. Jansen had 141 rushing yards on 25 attempts.

RCW outrushed Hills-Beaver Creek 281-73.

The Jaguars head to Morgan at 7 p.m. next Friday to face Cedar Mountain.

Melrose's fourth-quarter touchdown run by Lucas Feldewerd lifted the Dutchmen to the victory at Montevideo.

Junior running back Francis O'Malley scored both of the Thunder Hawks' touchdowns. He finished with 184 yards on 24 carries and one catch for 25 yards.

Rockford had three pick-sixes, returning three interceptions for touchdowns, to beat Minnewaska at Glenwood.

Quarterback Luke Dingmann had a hand in all five of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa's touchdowns in a Mid State 1 District win at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.

Dingmann threw three touchdown passes to three receivers — Jamison Reed, Luke Illies and Talen Kampsen — as he finished 18 of 27 for 217 yards. He also ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.

Reed hauled in seven catches for 123 yards. Toby Cebulla caught four balls for 48 yards, and Illies had five receptions for 42 yards.

Levi Olson rushed for two touchdowns and Dawson-Boyd's defense held Lakeview to 179 yards in the Blackjacks' upset of the seventh-ranked Lakers at Cottonwood.
