Football: Oxford Hills' Eli Soehren named Class A and MaxPreps player of the year
Nov. 27—Oxford Hills senior Eli Soehren has been voted the 2022 Maine Class A Football Coaches All-State Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Soehren, who led the Vikings to their first state championship earlier this month, also was chosen as the MaxPreps Maine High School Football Player of the Year. Both honors were announced earlier this week.
Soehren passed for 1,776 yards and 24 touchdowns this season for the 11-0 Vikings, who finished the season ranked No. 1 in the Varsity Maine football poll. He completed 110 of 167 passes and threw only five interceptions. He also ran for 349 yards and six touchdowns on 61 carries. In the class A championship game against Thornton Academy, a 21-7 Oxford Hills victory, Soehren ran for two scores and completed 15 of 26 passes for 259 yards.
Soehren also was voted by the Class A coaches at the All-State First-team quarterback and first-team punter, both for the second season in a row, and first-team placekicker.
Oxford Hills had a nearly clean sweep of the individual Class A awards. Along with Soehren's Dave Allen Player of the Year honor, lineman Zach Louvat shares Gerry Raymond Lineman of the Year honors with Thornton's Brent Paulin. Vikings head coach Mark Soehren, Eli's father, was chosen as the Mike Landry Coach of the Year for the second straight season, and Joe Oufiero is the Guy Lajeunesse Assistant Coach of the Year.
Louvat, a senior, also was selected to the first-team offense as a lineman and, like last year, was picked for the second-team defense.
Oxford Hills wide receivers Teigan Pelletier and Tanner Bickford also are on the first-team offense, as are Vikings tight end Lincoln Merrill and offensive lineman Holden Shaw.
Lewiston senior running back Eli Bigelow also is on the first-team offense.
Oxford Hills defensive tackle Finn Winning and linebacker Jake Carson were voted to the first-team defense along with Edward Little linebacker Drew Smith and Lewiston's Wyatt Vallee, who was selected as a defensive utility player.
Lewiston sophomore Joseph Dube earned All-State honors for the second year in a row as an offensive and defensive lineman. Teammate Farid Mohammed-Aceto is a second-team running back along with Trey Morrison of Oxford Hills. Vikings center Alex Bartlett and Edward Little offensive lineman Caden Gerry also are on the second-team offense.
Dube and Gerry join Louvat and Shaw as second-team defensive ends. Bickford, Merrill and Pelletier were voted second-team defensive backs — Merrill for the second year in a row — and Edward Little's Hunter LaChance is on the second team as a defensive utility player.
