Football Fridays return with prep jamborees

Aug. 11—At long last, it's high school football jamboree season in Aiken County.

Aiken County's jamboree, canceled in 2020 and '21 due to COVID-19 concerns, is back on the schedule and will finally make its return to Silver Bluff High School on Friday night.

The reigning Class AA Lower State champions have been waiting for their opportunity to host, and now it's here. All seven Aiken County high schools and Fox Creek will be in action for four games of two 12-minute quarters each.

Up first, with a scheduled start time of 6 p.m., is the opening matchup between Ridge Spring-Monetta and Aiken High.

The second game, scheduled for 6:45, will pit Midland Valley against Wagener-Salley.

The third game, scheduled for 7:30, will feature Fox Creek and South Aiken.

The final game, set for 8:15, will have the hosts taking on North Augusta and first-year head coach Matt Quinn.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online through GoFan at https://bit.ly/3pjzmEd.

The area's other prep football teams will also be in action Friday night at other jamborees.

Strom Thurmond and first-year head coach Andrew Webb will be at Greenwood High School's jamboree, where they will face Abbeville in the night's second matchup with a scheduled start time of 6:50 p.m. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the gate or online through Greenwood's athletics website at https://bit.ly/3vXr1Kj.

The Barnwell County high schools will make the trip to Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School for the Leon Maxwell Jamboree.

Barnwell will face Denmark-Olar at 7:30 p.m. in the third matchup of the night, and Williston-Elko and first-year head coach Kenny Lipsey will play the hosts at 8:15 p.m. in the final matchup.
