The senior had a terrific all-around game in all three phases during Cranford’s 35-0 win over Rahway. He connected on 4-of-5 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns, adding eight rushes for 127 yards and three more touchdowns. He also grabbed an interception on defense and was 5-for-5 kicking extra points for resurgent Cranford (3-2).
The junior rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns as the Pioneers earned a 27-14 win over previously undefeated A.L. Johnson. Gullo’s scores of 2 and 4 yards in the third quarter broke a 7-7 tie and gave his team the 21-7 lead. His 6-yard run in the fourth quarter sealed the win for New Providence (3-3).
St. Thomas Aquinas
Lovejoy gave St. Thomas Aquinas an early lead over Hillside by intercepting a pass and racing 101 yards for the touchdown. The Trojans went on to beat the previously unbeaten and state-ranked Comets 17-7. The senior was part of a dominant STA defensive effort and added five tackles. The Trojans (5-1) have won five in a row.
The senior helped lift Roselle to a big 42-0 win over Metuchen. Lyles carried 11 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns. The Rams (1-4) earned their first victory this season after three close losses.
The sophomore made the most of his touches in Manville’s impressive 27-0 win over Dunellen. Thomas rushed for 145 yards on three carries that included touchdown runs of 58 and 76 yards. He also added nine tackles on defense and blocked a punt as the Mustangs (5-1) won their fourth-straight game.
Wright had one of his trademark explosive nights in a 35-21 win over East Brunswick. The junior rushed for 214 yards and a touchdown as the Bombers (3-2) got back to over .500. Last season he rushed for 1,401 yards.
The junior had a huge day as Plainfield (1-4) earned its first win of the season. Wyatt rushed for 155 yards on 11 carries and scored three touchdowns to boost the Cardinals to a 42-0 win over North Bergen.
